"This photo, taken in Cologne, my hometown, in 1962, was in many ways the start of my career. At the time I was a lab apprentice. I often wandered the streets after work to take photos. With this photo I won the highly prestigious "Deutscher Jugendphotopreis," a kind of competition for rising talent in Germany. That's where it all began."
