The Man Who Didn't Like Firearms, the Offbeat Western of Paul Salomone

Published in 2011 by Delcourt, L'Homme qui n'aimait pas les armes à feu – Volume 1: Chili con carnage launches the series created by writer Wilfrid Lupano and artist Paul Salomone. In early 20th-century Arizona, British lawyer Byron Peck and his unsettling companion Mr. Hoggaard set out in search of a mysterious document capable of upending the history of the United States. Along the way, they cross paths with Margot, a woman as complex as she is cunning, one of the album's central figures (this page, in which the heroine appears nude, is exceptionally rare).

For this first album, Paul Salomone develops artwork that is both realistic and expressive, particularly suited to the western genre. The vast landscapes of the American West, characters with striking silhouettes, and action scenes are brought to life through a precise, dynamic line, while Lupano's humor gives the story a constant offbeat edge.

For this exhibition, we are pleased to present this original page by Paul Salomone from the first volume of L'Homme qui n'aimait pas les armes à feu. A particularly compelling piece for collectors, as it comes from the opening chapter of a series that made its mark through its blend of western, adventure, and humor, while offering a direct look at Salomone's work on one of his most notable albums.
