Jonas Crow, the Undertaker of the West According to Ralph Meyer
Created in 2015 by Xavier Dorison and Ralph Meyer, Undertaker quickly established itself as one of the major series in contemporary western comics. Its hero, Jonas Crow, is a solitary undertaker who travels the American West from one contract to the next. A disillusioned, cynical, and often provocative man, Jonas nonetheless remains a deeply human character, whose past and wounds are gradually revealed throughout the series.
In his artwork, Ralph Meyer gives the series a particularly strong graphic identity. His approach to the western genre relies on spectacular staging, meticulous attention to attitudes and expressions, and highly controlled use of light and contrast. Meyer colors the series himself in collaboration with Caroline Delabie, allowing him to build especially cinematic atmospheres and give Jonas an instantly recognizable presence.
This original illustration devoted to Jonas Crow captures the full graphic power of the character through Ralph Meyer's brush.
