Brüno’s instantly recognizable style
With his gaze hidden behind rectangular glasses, a striped-shirt figure aims two pistols straight at us. The composition is frontal, symmetrical, almost hypnotic: Brüno concentrates everything that defines his graphic strength. The line is stripped down—no gray tones, no compromise (nothing but India ink in its most direct brutality)—building volume through stylized shadows and bold blacks.
This original cover was created for the album The Man Who Killed Chris Kyle (Dargaud, 2020), written by Fabien Nury. The duo, already known for their collaboration on Tyler Cross, tackled contemporary documentary storytelling for the first time, recounting the true story of American sniper Chris Kyle and his killer. Brüno deploys a style unanimously praised by critics: fluid, pared-down lines that give the whole a raw, modern western feel, with strikingly seamless visual storytelling.
The black-and-white cover (Dargaud even released a separate full B&W edition of the album) is presented here in its purest state—the artist’s hand before reproduction. A rare piece for collectors following one of the most distinctive French artists of his generation.
