The Sensation of the Wild

We are pleased to present, for the first time in Europe, the remarkable work of Australian artist Violet Bond, who arrives in France in the flesh during NFT Paris 2024.

Violet Bond is an environmental artist living in the remote north of Australia. A sculptor, ceramist, and photographer, she draws inspiration from the cycles of the natural world and the wild Australian landscapes.

Violet lives with a deep connection to nature, inspired by its seasons, its capacity for rebirth, and its natural relationship with death.

Violet Bond about this Clouds artwork

What is the origin of this work?

"In 2023/24 I was living in very remote outback Australia. And although I have always been inspired buy the colour of Australian earth, the colour of the earth in the Bulman region is just different - if feel like the place where the blood of the world pours out onto the sand.
Much of the story I try to tell in my work is about the cycle of life and death in the natural world and how we are not seperate from nature itself - the fact that we are all just atoms and dust. That is really what is at the heart of Clouds."

• What place does it hold in your creative journey?

"This body of work was deeply of its place, formed by the environment itself. It also marks the first time I had taken this story made in the environment and transported it to a live performance.
I also specifically asked for permission from the Traditional owners of the land to borrow one of this dirt to take to Paris with me for the show, that felt very important."

• Any anecdotes about its creation or how it was received?

"One of the most unexpected parts of this work was as I collected this red earth for the live performance in Paris I did not expect the dirt it self to have such a strong smell of earth.
To have “Clouds” on the wall and then to have the gallery actually smell like the Australian outback was an unexpected but wonderful way of binging the work to life."

• What are you currently working on?

"Although I'm prolific and offend working on 100 projects at once, my main focus this year has been working with failing tech in a broken scanner and the mortality and humanity of our technology."
