Sports Art - Twickenham Streaker - Original Photograph by Ian Bradshaw
An Event Exhibition, During the World Cup
To mark the Football World Cup, Achetez de l'Art Paris presents Sports Art, an exhibition devoted to the artistic representation of sport through a dialogue between photography and illustration.
About This Photograph
Twickenham Stadium, London. England vs France, 1974.
While streaking is now something of an English speciality, the very first streaker in history was actually Australian. At half-time in the match between England and France, Michael O'Brien ran across the pitch naked, with Princess Alexandra in attendance (Oh my God!), before being apprehended by the Bobbies. For his boldness, he was fined £10. But he sparked a trend. Streaking has been in vogue ever since, with many still attempting it despite ever-tighter security.
In Ian Bradshaw's words
" The simplest photo I ever took, and the most important of my career. I was just in the right place at the right time. I didn't even move — I just waited for the hat to be... perfectly placed! "
