A New Gem by Mathieu Bablet, Premium Edition !

Mathieu Bablet returns to Achetez de l’Art, following the success of the major retrospective we dedicated to him just a few months ago.

As part of our “Visions of Japan” exhibition, we are proud to present two new original works by the artist — including the incredible original cover illustration for Midnight Tales Vol. 3 (Japan Special), along with this premium limited edition print of that spectacular original artwork.

An Exceptional Original Cover

This print reproduces, in a sepia version, the original cover of the third volume of Midnight Tales – Japan Special, published in May 2019 by Ankama. The series features stories centered around the Order of Midnight, a secret society of witches protecting humanity from monsters, primal fears, and occult forces.

Volume 3 of Midnight Tales explores the topic of nuclear history in Japan, from Hiroshima (precisely 75 years ago)to Fukushima, revisited by a group of talented artists including Baptiste Pagani, Thomas Rouzière, The Neb Studio, and Mathieu Bablet.

The dramatic face-off depicted on the cover — three characters confronting a Kaiju atop the Genbaku Dome of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial — is striking. The tension is heightened by the incredibly detailed urban landscape, a trademark of Bablet’s work, even when portraying ruins.

The scene also features three planes carrying American Midnight Girls, who have just opened a magical portal to summon the Kaiju, a demon from Hell meant to strike the city with enough force to force surrender... a hellish reinterpretation of August 6, 1945, in the story “Mokusatsu.”
