L'Île aux Femmes, the Fantasy World of Zanzim

Published in 2015 by Glénat in the 1000 Feuilles collection, L'Île aux Femmes is the first album Zanzim created solo, handling both the writing and the artwork. It tells the story of Céleste Bompard, a stunt-flying ace enlisted during the First World War, whose plane crashes on a mysterious island inhabited by amazons. The man who dreamed of being a great seducer instead finds himself a prisoner of these women, as fascinating as they are formidable.

With a spare, elegant, and highly expressive line, Zanzim builds a world that is both sensual and poetic. Beneath the humor and offbeat situations, L'Île aux Femmes offers a reflection on relationships between men and women, reversing the roles traditionally associated with seduction and power. The album also stands out for its refined aesthetic, which gives the female characters a particularly strong presence.
