A Brüno américana, pure and unapologetic
Stetson on her head, star-spangled bikini, cowgirl boots and assault rifle slung over her shoulder — the figure stands there, feet planted in the grass, with the easy confidence of someone who has nothing to prove. Bikini Babe with a Big Gun is an illustration created by Brüno in 2020 for The Man Who Shot Chris Kyle (Dargaud, written by Fabien Nury): a genre image worn proudly, somewhere between pulp pin-up and American military iconography, that says a great deal about how the Brüno-Nury duo approached this incendiary subject.
The line work is unmistakably his: clean, without grey washes, built on bold blacks and stylized ink shadows. The weapon is drawn with near-documentary precision — Brüno lingers over every mechanical detail of the rifle, deliberately contrasting with the lightness of the rest of the composition. That visual paradox is the heart of the image: violence made seductive, American firepower dressed up as folklore, the sniper Chris Kyle told through his myth rather than his crime.
